The municipality of Mahamud (146 inhabitants in 2009; 3,361 ha) is located 35 km of Burgos.
Mahamud was most probably resettled in the 10th century by Mozarabs -
as "evidenced" by the village's name - and / or Basques, as
"evidenced" by the Nuestra Señora de Báscones chapel./P>

The flag and arms of Mahamud, adopted on 9 November 2000 by the Municipal Council, are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 8 February
2001 by the Burgos Provincial Government, signed on 15 February 2001 by the President of the Government, and published on 28 February 2001 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 42, p. 3,354 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Castilian flag, quartered white and green, in Royal shape, in the middle of the flag a lion rampant or placed in a circle [? enmarcada al círculo con un león rampante al centro y de amarillo].
Coat of arms: Mantled curvy vert with a cannon or surrounded by two lions rampant of the same, 1. Gules a crescent argent reverted, 2. Argent per bend a key [...] The shield surmounted with a Royal crown closed.
