The municipality of Botija (185 inhabitants in 2016; 1,874 ha; municipal website) is located 30 km southeast of Cáceres, 30 km southwest of Trujillo and 30 km northwest of Mérida.
Botija was reconquered from the Moors in 1230 and incorporated to the Community of the Town and Land of Montánchez, ruled by the Order of St. James. The privilege granted by King Alfonso IX was confirmed by Ferdinand III the Saint in 1231 and 1234.

The flag and arms of Botija, adopted on 3 January 1989 and 10 October 1992 by the Municipal Council and validated on 15 October 1991 and 24 November 1992 by the Assessing Council of Honors and Distinctions of the Government of Extremadura, are prescribed by an Order issued on 25 November 1992 by the Government of Extremadura and published on 10 December 1992 in the official gazette of Extremadura, No. 96, p. 2,696 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 2:3. Made of three vertical stripes, the central white and twice longer than the two other, which are green. Charged in the center with the municipal coat of arms in full colors.
Coat of arms: Per pale, 1. Argent a Cross-Sword of the Order of St. James, 2. Gules a barrel or circled sable. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.
