Presentation of Casar de Palomero

The municipality of Casar de Palomero (1,151 inhabitants in 2017; 3,700 ha) is located 120 km north of Cáceres and 40 km north of Plasencia. The municipality is made of the villages of Casar de Palomero, Azabal (338 inh.), Rivera Oveja (98 inh.) and Pedro-Muñoz (65 inh.).

Flag of Casar de Palomero

The flag and arms of Casar de Palomero, adopted on 30 October 1986 by the Municipal Council and validated on 23 January 1987 by the Royal Academy of History, are prescribed by an Order issued on 2 March 1987 by the Government of Extremadura and published on 12 March 1987 in the official gazette of Extremadura, No. 20, pp. 342-343 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: 1. The local flag shall be charged with the coat of arms of the town of Casar de Palomero, which shall be in height 2/5 of the flag's hoist and be featured on both sides of the flag.
2. The usual proportion of the flag shall be a length equal to 3/2 of the width. The shield's axis, matching the center of the Latin cross, shall be placed at 1/2 of the flag's width from the hoist.
3. The flag shall be rectangular, purple, charged with a Latin cross, argent or white, whose arms, in width equivalent to 2/3 of the height of the town's coat of arms, are parallel to the hoist.
Coat of arms: Per pale, 1. Azure a castle argent fimbriated sable supporting by a mount with three rays, 2. Gules a Latin cross argent. Grafted in base, Vert two doves argent. A bordure argent inscribed with the legend "VILLA DE CASAR DE PALOMERO". The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed [lengthy description skipped].

The Royal Academy of History validated the proposed arms, "a castle, stars; a Latin cross, two doves", proposing to arrange them as:
"Per pale, 1. Azure a castle argent supported by a mount vert and fimbriated sable, 2. Gules a Latin cross argent. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed".
The Academy recommended to drop the proposed stars and bordure, deemed unnecessary, to preserve the clarity of the heraldic composition.
The Academy validated the proposed flag.
