The municipality of La Granja (328 inhabitants in 2019 vs. 724 in 1940: 1,494 ha) is located 100 km north-east of Cáceres and 30 km north-east of Plasencia.

Flag of La Granja

The flag and arms of La Granja, adopted on 18 December 1997 by the Municipal Council and validated on 16 November 1999 by the Assessing Council of Honors and Distinctions of the Government of Extremadura, are prescribed by an Order issued on 15 May 2000 by the Government of Extremadura and published on 25 May 2000 in the official gazette of Extremadura, No. 60, pp. 5,188-5,189 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 2:3. Composed of two equal vertical stripes, at hoist, green, at fly, white with three horizontal blue stripes.
Coat of arms: Vert a fess azure fimbriated argent in chief three tobacco leaves argent in base a branch of olive of the same. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.

Tobacco crops covered 8,750 ha in Extremadura in 2016, yielding 29.5 million tobacco leaves, that is, 97% of the Spanish production. Spain is Europe's third biggest tobacco producer (17%) after Italy (37%) and Poland (22%).
