The municipality of Robledollano (310 inhabitants in 2019 vs. 786 in 1950; 6,174 ha; municipal website) is located 100 km east of Cáceres and 50 km south of Navalmoral de la Mata.
Robledollano originates, according to a document dated 1570, from an inn established on a transhumance road near a bush of oaks (robles). The village was locally known as Medio Robledo (Half Robledo), since 30 of its inhabitants paid tax to the lord of Deleitosa while the remaining 20 paid tax to the abbey of Castañas de la Peña (today, Castañas del Castillo). This odd status was still effective in 1791.
Sebastián de Miñano (Diccionario Geográfico Estadístico, 1826) lists Robledo Llano as a hamlet of Cabañas. Madoz (Diccionario Geográfico Estadístico Histórico, Vol. 13, 1849) lists Robledo-Llano as a settlement with its own municipality.
