The flag of Hornachuelos, adopted on 26 November 2014 by the Municipal Council and submitted on 8 May 2015 to the Directorate General of the Local Administration, is prescribed by a Decree adopted on 14 May 2015 by the Directorate General of the Local Administration and published on 21 May 2015 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 96, p. 124 (text).
The flag is described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular, divided into two horizontal stripes, the upper blue and the lower white. In the center, overlapping the two stripes, a castle or with three crenels, the central higher, masoned black and port and windows red, its size equating 1/6 of the flag's area.
The process of adoption of the flag was initiated on 26 February 2014 by the Municipal Council, which organized a public call for proposals. The winning design, proclaimed on 26 November 2014, was submitted by Federico Fernández Pérez. The designer selected the colours representing the town. Blue is used in several flags to represent water; the life and history of the town would have been totally different without the presence of rivers Bembézar, Guadalquivir and their tributaries. Furnaces (hornos) and bridges were built near these rivers, which supplied water as the source of life. Blue is also a symbol of nobleness, the nobility being said to be of blue blood. White represents the noble boroughs of Hornachuelos. It represents the families that have composed, compose and will compose the municipality. White is also a symbol of peace and tranquillity.
The castle is a cultural element proper to the municipality. The castle of Hornachuelos is part of the heritage of the town, relatively well preserved when considering its date of erection (8th century), known to all the citizens of Hornachuelos, located on a prominent place of easy access, with a long life and history.
