The municipality of Quintanar del Rey (7,589 inhabitants in 2018,
therefore the 3rd most populous municipality in the province; 7,981 ha; municipal website)

The village, known as Quintanar del Marquisado de Villena, was renamed
to Quintanar del Rey in 1561 by Philip V, as a reward for its loyalty to
the king.
