The municipality of Moratilla de los Meleros (106 inhabitants in 2014; 2,915 ha) is located in the south-west of the Province of Guadalajara, 30 km of Guadalajara.
Moratilla was re-settled soon after the Christian reconquest by a lineage of knights from Segovia. The first lord of Moratilla was Pedro Migule, who was succeeded by Miguel Pérez and Guutiérrez Miguel. In 1176, King Alfonso VIII granted the place to the Order of Calatrava, which ruled it until Charles I granted the status of villa to Moratilla.
