Presentation of Viana de Jadraque

The municipality of Viana de Jadraque (56 inhabitants in 2014; 2,441 ha; municipal website) is located in the north-west of the Province of Guadalajara, 70 km of Guadalajara and 25 km of Sigüenza.

Viana belonged to the Community of the Town and Land of Atienza, established after the Christian reconquest of the area by King Alfonso VI (1085). In the 15th century, the village was transferred to the town of Jadraque. The domain was ruled by Gómez Carrillo, who transferred it to his son, Alfonso Carrillo de Acuña, who swapped it for other domains with Cardinal Pedro González de Mendoza. The domain was ruled by the Dukes of the Infantado until the suppression of the feudal system.
Originally known as Vianella de Jadraque, the village was subsequently renamed Viana de Jadraque.

Symbols of Viana de Jadraque

The flag and arms of Viana de Jadraque are prescribed by an Order issued on 29 July 2014 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on 7 August 2014 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 151, p. 23,391 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 2:3, made of two equal vertical stripes, white at hoist and green at fly. In the center of the flag, the coat of arms, whose width shall be 2/3 of the flag's width.
Coat of arms: Per pale, 1. Vert (green) a fountain argent, 2. Argent a water mill vert. In chief a yoke counter-colored. The shield surmounted by a Royal Spanish crown.

The symbols were first approved on 6 February 2013 by the Municipal Council, which eventually validated them on 25 May 2014.
Green represents the fields and the woods, while white represents the limpidity of the air and the nobleness of the inhabitants.
The flag uses the same colors as the coat of arms, swapped for the sake of visibility.
The charges of the shield highlight the rural traditions of the village.
