Presentation of Matadeón de los Oteros

The municipality of Matadeón de los Oteros (285 inhabitants in 2010; 4,644 ha) is located in the southeast of León Province, 40 km of León. The municipality is made of the villages of Matadeón de los Oteros (capital), Fontanil de los Oteros, San Pedro de los Oteros and Santa María de los Oteros.

Symbols of Matadeón de los Oteros

The flag (photo, Town Hall) and arms of Matadeón de los Oteros are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 22 July 1999 by the Municipal Council, signed on 10 November 1999 by the Mayor, and published on 2 December 1999 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 233, p. 11,759 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Square flag with proportions 1:1, azure with a cross patty or with the Greek letters "alpha" and "omega" or hanging from the cross, surrounded with eight wedges argent forming a bordure.
Coat of arms: Per pale, 1. Argent nine wedges azure, 2. Gules a cross patty or from its horizontal arms issuant to the base the Greek letters "alpha" and "omega" of the same, grafted in base or a bunch of grapes vert. The shield surmounted by a Royal Spanish crown.

The cross represented on the flag and arms is the Cross of Victory, depicted on the flag of Asturias.
