The festival of St. John is held every year in Ciutadella on the 23 July and 24 July, the day of St. John. Part of the festival is the presention of horses. At least one rider bears a dark red square flag with fringes of the same, charged with a white cross patty, slightly shifted to the hoist. The cross, similar to a Maltese cross, is the attribute of St. John in Ciutadella.
During the festival a rectnagular copy of the flag (photo) is hoisted on the chapel of Sant Joan de Missa, located south of the town.
Furthermore in the center of the historic core area is a pillar, topped by the Monument Es Be, a bronce statue displaying a ram holding a square flag (photo), just the way, usually Paschal lambs as attribute of St. John the Baptist do. The cross in the monument is shifted to the fly, probably just to display it better.
