Presentation of Zamarra

he municipality of Zamarra (85 inhabitants in 2020 vs. 530 in 1950; 4,788 ha) is located 100 km south-west of Salamanca and 15 km south-east of Ciudad Rodrigo. The municipality is composed of the villages of Zamrra and Villarejo (19 inh.).

Symbols of Zamarra

The flag and arms of Zamarra (images), adopted on 12 June 2020 by the Municipal Council, are prescribed by an Agreement issued on 29 December 2020 by the Municipal Council, signed on 5 March 2021 by the Mayor and published on 12 March 2021 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 50, p. 11,760 (text). Based on the positive report issued by the Chronicler of Castilla y León, the Municipal Council turned down on 29 December 2020 an appeal tabled against the proposed symbols.
The symbols, which were designed by Tomás Domínguez Cid, are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular flag with three equal horizontal stripes, blue, white and green, which are the colors used in the fields of the coat of arms. In the center, [the municipal coat of arms] superimposed to all colors, in width, 2/5 of the flag's width.
Coat of arms: Quarterly, 1. Gules a shepherd cloak [zamarra] argent, 2. Argent the Lerilla idol stone proper, 3. Azure waves argent, 4. Vert an antique funerary stele. [Crown not mentioned]
