The Air Force units which can have a flag are squadrons, Air Force schools and academies, and the Air Force Military experimentation and trial centers, as prescribed by Circulaire No. 2932/DEF/EMAA/3/OP relative à la symbolique dans l'armée de l'air, 24 August 1984 (text).

The design of the colours follows the general pattern used for the colours of the French Army.
