In 2014 it was expanded to 38 municipalities, when it was merged with the three Communautés de Communes de l'Europort, de Jâlons, and de la Région de Condé-sur-Marne (except Pocancy, in Jâlons, which joined the Communauté de Communes de la Région de Vertus.

The Communautés de communes de Sézanne-Sud Ouest Marnais (CCSSOM; 21,708 inhabitants in 2016, 76,200 ha) was established on 1 January 2017 as the merger of the former Communauté de communes du Pays d'Anglure (est. in 2001; 20 municipalities), Communauté de communes des Coteaux Sézannais (23 municipalities) and Communauté de communes des Portes de Champagne (19 municipalities).

The building is the St. Denis church in Sézanne, which is a regional landmark (42 m in height) in a very flat landscape.
In the Middle Ages, Sézanne had a double church, dedicated to Sts. Denis and Julian, served by monks of the Order of Cluny. The St. Julien church was demolished while the remaining St. Denis church was rebuilt in 1520 in Flamboyant Gothic style. The church was not damaged during the great blaze that destroyed two-thirds of the town in 1632.

The wheat spike recalls that Sézanne is located in a main grain producing area. The Novagrain cooperative (website), based in Sézanne, groups some 600 members cultivating 30,000 ha. Wheat collected every year by Novagrain is equivalent to the bread diet of 250,000 people, while barley collected every year corresponds to 150,000 liters beer.
The bubbles recall that Sézanne is the center of the Côte de Sézanne champagne-producing area. Established around 1960 in an decentered area, Côte de Sézanne is Champagne's newest vineyard. It includes cover 1,500 ha scattered over 12 municipalities, mostly (75%) planted in Chardonnay stock.
