The Collectivité européenne d'Alsace (CeA; Alsatian: D'Europäischa Gebiatskärwerschàft Elsàss) was established as the merger of the departments of Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin, voted on 25 July 2019 by the French Parliament, with effect on 1 January 2021.
The new collectivity has the competencies of a department and some others of a region.
The departments of Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin do not exist anymore as
territorial collectivities with elected Departmental Councils, but only as
administrative districts for the action of the préfet, who represents the State in
each department.

Two flags are in use in the new collectivity:
- the banner of arms of Alsace, which is a juxtaposition of the arms of Lower Alsace and Upper Alsace, flown for example inside and outside the Assembly in Colmar (photo, photo).
- a white flag charged with the collectivity's logo, seen in front of the
Collectivity building (photo).
The "heart-shaped A" is the logo of the shared Alsace brand, launched in 2012. It evokes a pretzel or a traditional headdress, surrounding letter "A", for "Alsace"). Red and white are the traditional colors of Alsace. The Collectivité européenne d'Alsace uses this logo, with the addition of the blue color and the stars of the European Union flag.
