Presentation of Citerna Maritime

Citerna Maritime was founded in 1931 by the Belgian shipping company Plouvier. For the next five decades, the company was involved in coastal shipping of oil and wine, as well as river shipping of oil on the Seine and the Rhône. In 1972, the company sold its sea float to Pétromer, remaining active only in river transportation.
Most of the company's ships were named for winds, Noroit (seized by the Germans in 1942 and mined the same year under German flag), Suroit, Nord-Est, Sud-Est, Éole, Eurus, Zéphyr, Alizé and Notus (Dans le Sillage d'Eärendil website).
