Unifipêche was founded in 1988 by Compagnie des Pêches de Saint-Malo, a company established in 1934 in Saint-Malo (Brittany) for cod fishing on Newfoundland banks.

Unitil recently, Unifipêche owned a fleet of 24 ships specialized in the fishing and deep-freezing of tropical wild shrimps (Penaeus brasiliensis and P. subtilis) in the fishing exclusive zone (200 miles) of French Guiana. The quota allocated to the company was 4,000 t per year but catches were willingly restricted to 1,600 t per year for the sake of sustainability.
Unifipêche was liquidated in October 2011 by the commercial court, causing the firing of the 130 employees of the cmpany.

The house flag of Unifipêche, as painted on the hull of the ships (no actual flag seen), was "quartered" blue-red-red-blue by a white diamond charged with a black "U".
