Ittoqqortoormiit (in Danish, "Scoresbysund") is a
village in the East Coast of Greenland, in the territory of
"Tunu" (East Greenalnd): its official name is
"Ittoqqortoormiiit Kommunea", and the Municipality
includes the villages of Ittaajirnrniit and Uunarteq. It
represents a blue shield on a white field, with a triangle (I
think it should be the Gunnbjørns Fjeld, the talles mount of the
island with its 3.700 meters) and two strange faces (maybe of
musk oxe). If you want to know more, you can find photos and
information at <www.ittoqqortoormiit.gl>.

Yes. They are musk.

Photos at <www.ittoqqortoormiit.gl>
show that only Greenland flag is in use side by side to the
municipal arms (not on flag thou...yet?), so the flag reported
above probably don't exist.

Is "musk" the correct name for these animals, or
rather "musk ox"? As far as I know, "musk" is
a substance exhuded by these animals and used in the parfum
industry.

I recently researched municipal flags in Greenland by
correspondence with municipal authorities in Greenland. The
results have just been published in the Fall 2005 issue of
Nordisk Flaggkontakt, the journal of the Nordic Flag Society [joe05].
I managed to get confirmation from 15 of 18 municipalities all
using the same flag model - the coat of arms on a white field
(the colour white carries no symbolism). Ittoqqortoormiit
is one of them.
