The municipality of Kukljica (714 inhabitants in 2011) covers the southern end of the Ugljan island, situated in front of Zadar. The municipality was established in 1997 by separation from the municipality of Kali, covering now the central part of the island.

The symbols of Kukljica are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Kukljica, adopted on 10 June 1998 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 29 March 1999 in the County official gazette Službeni glasnik Zadarske županije, No. 2.
The symbols are described in the Municipality Statutes Status Općine Kukljica, adopted on 13 December 2001 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 31 May 2002 in Službeni glasnik Zadarske županije, No. 7.
The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka
The flag is prescribed in Article 9 of the Decision, as follows:
The flag is of a single, blue, colour, with a ratio of length to width of 2:1, in accordance with the Law. In the middle of the flag, at the crossing point of the diagonals, is the coat of arms of the municipality, printed on both sides and bordered yellow. The flag is preserved in the office of the Mayor.
Thisd was shortened in Article 4 of the Municipality Statutes:
The flag of the Municipality of Kukljica is in proportions 1:2, blue with the coat of arms of the Municipality, bordered golden yellow, in the middle.

The coat of arms is prescribed in Article 6 of the Decision, as follows:
In a semi-circular shield, in a blue field, top: a silver snowflake in a cross form, bottom: a golden boat.
This was modified in Article 4 of the Municipality Statutes, probably after approval by the dentral authorities:
The coat of arms of the Municipality of Kukljica is blue with a white snowflake and in base a golden boat.
These charges symbolically represent the local feast of Mary ad Nives (Our Lady of Snow, Gospa Snježna) that has been celebrated on 5 August uninterrupted for almost 500 years. In the main procession the statue of the Virgin is transferred from the local church to a chapel by boat.
The same kind of boat is shown on the coat of arms of the Municipality of Preko, located on the same Ugljan island, adopted in 2011. Instead of a sail, the boat is here equipped with an oar.

The ceremonial flag (photo) is a blue gonfalon with three tails, the municipal coat of arms in the centre, the name of the municipality above, and ornaments in the tails.
