The Media University in Split seems to have been established around 2010; it gained government certificate, but classes never actually started. In the meantime, in 2013, it was acquired by the towns of Koprivnica and Varaždin, and incorporated in their higher education projects, forming University North (website), with the main seat in Koprivnica and location also in Varaždin.

The symbols of University North are prescribed in Article 17 of the University Statutes, Statut Sveučilišta Sjever (pročišćeni tekst), last amended in 2013, as "an emblem (logo), a coat of arms, a seal and a flag, to be defined in separate
Regulation"s.
The flag in actual use (photo) is vertical, red inscribed with white in an arc "SVEUČILIŠTE" and in line below it "SJEVER" and in the base a quartered circle (a compass rose), with the crossbeams interupted with inscriptions readable from "outside the circle" - "SVEUČILIŠTE SJEVER" in the base,
"UNIVERSITY NORTH" in the top, "VŽ KC" (for "Varaždin" and
"Koprivnica") in dexter, "MMI" in sinister. The last presumably stands
for 2001, the year when the Electrical Engeenering School in Varaždin started its first higher education study programme, being considered the root of the University.
