The first mention about the settlement is from 1238 as 'Villa
Curmend terra regis'. In 1244-1871 the settlement is market town.
In 1871-1979 large village and from 1979 Körmend is town in Vas
county.
The town had got a new Coat of Arms in 1980 with Red Star. After
the end of the Communist period in Hungary redrawed the Coat of
Arms without the red star. In 2000 renewed the original Coat of
Arms of the town from 1849.
