In 1595, he was appointed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi lord of Sawayama Castle in Omi Province with 194,000 goku.
He was defeated by the Eastern Force led by Tokugawa Ieyasu at the Battle of Sekigahara and was beheaded in 1600.
He used several war banners:
The war banner has red background with Kamon kanji letter石
Ishi the initials of his family name surrounded by white descending wisteria and black three circles in a circle.
The 2nd war banner has white background with black kanji 大一大万大吉which represents prosperity and longevity and are considered auspicious.
The 3rd war banner has black background with three red circles.
The 4th war banner has white background with kanji patron god name above two black horizontal stripes and oak leaves above black diagonal stripe.

Lord of the Hikone domain in Omi Province, he participated in the Osaka Winter Campaign of 1614 as a member of the Tokugawa side. He was awarded 150,000 goku of Hikone for his military exploits. The war banner was all red with a patron God name for samurai 八幡大菩薩 in gold topped with a red Maneki small streaming flag.
