Located in Akita City Akita Prefecture and established in 2013. The university flag has white background with a light green and pink emblem and black Kanji school name horizontally written. There is a variant where the English name appears between the Kanji and the symbol. The university emblem was designed to symbolize the university's basic philosophy of "a university that creates and challenges new artistic fields," with an awareness of a dynamic, continuous, and expansive design that is not bound by typical university symbols. The shape of the emblem represents the image of the lush green mountain range and the Japan Sea beautifully tinted by the setting sun, seen from Akita City, with two lines in light green and pink, respectively. Each line, representing a mountain range and the space between waves, is like a braid, intersecting and uniting. This also expresses the basic philosophy of the university, which is to study art while crossing over different genres, to connect the community and the university, the community and the students, to create, to develop together, and to transmit new values to the world. Each line is also a connection of "A, U, and A" of the university's English name "Akita University of Art," and the shape of the four peaks can be seen as: (1) Creating and challenging new fields of art, (2) Utilizing and developing Akita's traditions and culture, (3) To nurture global human resources who will send out messages from Akita to the world. (4) Contribute to community development and work together with the local community. The design of the building also recalls the triangular shape of the school buildings (atrium building, symbol tower, etc.) and the triangular roof of the training building (former National Shinya Warehouse). ?The two colors used are close to complementary colors on the hue circle, making them stand out from each other and further enhancing visibility and appeal. The university emblem design was drafted by Yuka Otani, a visual arts major.
