Located in Nishinomiya City Hyogo Prefecture and established in 1932. The university flag is blue-white -blue horizontal three stripes with a yellow emblem at the canton. According to the June 20, 1954 issue of the "Kwansei Gakuin Shinbun" (Kansai Gakuin Newspaper), the long-pending university flag, "embroidered with the new moon emblem in relief on a gray habutae ground" and "the tip of its pole in the shape of a spear," was newly made. In 1894, when Kwansei Gakuin was founded, a committee of teachers and students was formed to determine the school uniform and cap, and the current emblem was decided by combining two characters: the new moon (crescent moon) submitted by the students and "K.G." submitted by the teachers. The design of the crescent also suggests a connection with the flag design of the state of South Carolina, the home state of J.C.C. Newton, the third president of the university. The design is meant to symbolize the awareness that we are the ones who constantly shine with the radiance of God, just as the moon shines with the light of the sun, and to symbolize our commitment to progress and improvement in our pursuit of the ideal, just as the new moon shines toward perfection as it eventually turns into a full moon.
