Located in Chofu City Tokyo and established in 1949.
The embroidered ceremonial flag has purplish blue background with a gold-colored emblem and vertically written gold kanji university name and gold fringe.
The university flag has purplish blue background with a white university emblem in the center.
The history of the Lissajous design for the university emblem dates back to 1949, the year of the inauguration of the new university system, when the student government took up the issue, held discussions with the university, and decided to hold a contest for students and faculty members with the approval of the Faculty Council in September 1949. As a result, the design submitted by Professor Sadao Matsumura, with the letters "大學" on a Lissajous figure with a frequency ratio of 5 to 6, was adopted.
The frequency ratio of 5 to 6 in the Lissajous diagram corresponds to East Japan with a commercial power frequency of 50 Hz and West Japan with 60 Hz, and was adopted in the sense of harmonization throughout Japan.
Therefore, it can be said that the Lissajous figure emblem of the University of Electro-Communications expresses the founding spirit of the university: "Adopt a university name without a place name, the University of Electro-Communications, and build a university open to the whole nation of Japan.
