Former Civil Ensign

Saint Kitts and Nevis ensign image by Zoltan Horvath, 10 September 2024

Civil and naval ensign: national flag-like, but 1:2.
Jan Zrzavy, 16 Jan 1998

Possibly the 1:2 flag is abandoned in the mean time and the Album [pay00] does not show it (Regarding the dimensions, same as the national flag, only the distance of the stars seems to be the same as the hoist.)
Željko Heimer, 01 Jan 2003

Flottes de combat ed 1998 shows a photo of patrol boat with as ensign the national flag 2:3. In Mariner’s Handbook sup 2 (feb 96), UK hydrographic office presents a civil ensign, national flag 2:3.
Armand du Payrat, 20 Jul 1999

Ensign in ratio 1:2. Chainging the ratio to 1:2 while retaining the sam basic characteristic (i.e. bend of 30% of hoist, with fimbriations of 6% etc. the only sensible thing is to enlarge the horizontal dimensions proportionally. This makes it 64-76-60 with top to bottom as beofre 30-38-32. The rotation of stars is now ctg(0.5)= 26.565°.

The Album 2000 [pay00] says:

2. Alternative Naval Ensign. ---/--W 1:2
The White Ensign, i.e. white flag with red cross thoughout and the national flag in canton, fimbriated white. The traditional width of the red cross in the white ensign is 4/30ths, however the image in Album seems to have the horizontal crossbar thinner then that — is this intentional? The flag in the canton is then deformed into ≅4:9 ratio, this being even longer then 1:2, and distance between the stars is the required to be longer, approx. 24 units (of the 1/20 of the hoist size of the canton flag).
Željko Heimer, 01 Jan 2003

Jane’s Fighting Fleets [jfs] reports the St. Kitts ensign is like the British white ensign (i.e., a red St. George cross on a white field), with the Union Jack replaced by the St Kitts national flag in the canton.
Armand du Payrat, 24 Aug 1988

In Jane’s fighting ships [jfs] ed. 1998 annex pages “ensigns and flags”, they present a naval ensign, st George 1:2 with national flag in canton.
Armand du Payrat, 20 Jul 1999

Naval ensign is in 1:2, but here the national flag in its canton is elongated even further to 4:9. Againg, retaining the dimensions, rotation is now ctg(4/9)=23.962°, while dimensions along the length (assuming the hoist is still 100 units) is 72-85.5-67.5.

St Kitts doesn’t have a Navy, only a Coast Guard. Image of flag: https://shipshub.com
