Rolde [former municipality]
Rolde is since 1 Jan 1999 part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze.
This flag was adopted 9 February 1962 by the municipal council of Rolde.
The colors were derived from the municipal Coat of Arms. Sword and cross symbolize
Justice; Rolde had an important place in the old institution of 'Etstoel'
(Scandinavian: 'Thing). Alternative (older) name for municipality
in Drenthe was 'dingspel'. The position of the sword seems strange:
normally the point of the sword is directed towards the hoist
