Blazon: I sølv en krummet svart kveite. In English: Argent a flounder embowed
reversed sable.
Fish is blazoned embowed when forming an (upover) arch. I have not found what
would be equivalnt for "downover" arch in English, but "embowed reversed" seemed
like logical...
Approved by the royal resolution of 15 May 1987 after a drawing by Svein A.
Berntsen. [c2j88]
The wikipedia article
sourcing Norske Kommunevåpen (1990) identifies the flounder fish species as
"Atlantic halibut (Hippoglossus hippoglossus), a main species of local fish,
which symbolizes the importance of fishing for the local community. In addition
to this, the fish played a major role in local legends, similar to the role of
bears in land-based legends."
