Nauru Pacific Line

[House flag, reported as 'Civil Ensign' (Nauru)]  image provided by Neale Rosanoski, 28 October 2008

The national shipping line of Nauru was later run from Melbourne after being formed in 1969, and was run as a subsidized operation until closed down in 1992. Originally the ships were owned by the Nauru Local Government Council and operated as Nauru Pacific Line but in 1980 they were registered under Nauru Corporation (Victoria) Inc. The Log of 5/1990 and 4/1994 record it under the name of the Nauru Pacific Line (Australia) Pty. Ltd. and detail/ show a dark blue flag charged with a 12 pointed white star bearing a black anchor [see N361 attached] though from sightings I made in 1983 and 1989 I recorded the anchor as being blue.

The anchor colour thus differs from the yellow shown by Pedersen. Perhaps we are all right and the colour was changed over the years. Personally I favour the Australian home advantage with black. My own sighting might have looked "blue" because I thought it in line with the field colour and being dark blue there would be little difference at a distance.

It is also shown as yellow Brown 1995 who record it under the name of Nauru Corporation (Victoria) Ltd. It also shows the star as having unequal points which I regard as unlikely both in view of funnel photos and the stated meaning of the star representing the 12 tribes of the island.
