It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of white and green.

Shield divided per pale (which isn't allowed by rules of 1930 and 1991), dexter half Azure, base filled by rocks Argent lined Sable, crowned by a castle Argent masoned Sable with port and windows Azure, having three embattled towers, on the central tower a red flag with three black discs in fess is hoisted, sinister half Or with base wavy of Azure and Argent, crowned by an ancient ship Sable rigged Argent, in chief a star consisting of eight dots Purpure surrounding a crosslet Argent. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "VILA DA BRANCA".
