Ansião Commune is one of the six communes of Ansião Municipality; it had 2728 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 19.6 km². In 2013 the neighbouring communes Lagarteira and Torre de Vale de Todos were incorporated.

Meaning:
The lizards (Port.: lagartos) are canting elements. The communes name might be something like a tree, visited by lizards. In this case the tree would also be a canting element.
