Meaning:
The base wavy is symbolizing the rivers Minha and Coura, which merge in Caminha. The tower is the central tower from the flag of Caminha Municipality.

Caminha (Matriz) Commune was one of the pre-2013 communes of Caminha Municipality (q.v.); it had 1346 inhabitants in 2011 and covered 9.8 km².

Shield Argent, base wavy of Argent - Vert - Argent - Azure, the waves Argent charged with three red fish ordered 2:1, a mountain Vert issuant from base wavy and crowned by an embattled ringwall Azure masoned Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "VILARELHO".
Meaning:
The tricoloured base wavy should symbolize a river's mouth, although Vilarelho, just like Matriz is located only at the two rivers Minha and Coura.
