Fânzeres Commune was one of the pre-2013 communes of Gondomar Municipality (q.v.); it had 23 108 inhabitants in 2011 and covered 8.1 km².

Meaning:
The elements in base are canting referring to the suffix "da cova" (= of the pitt).
