The flag is quartered, white and blue; in the center, the coat of arms.
António Martins-Tuválkin,
"Ponta do Sol" means "Sun’s Cape" so here we have some canting heraldry: These are: azure, a Sun argent (!) with mouth gules and other human features lined sable, and with 16 short rays or, alternating straight and
wavy rays, the first pointing in the main compass directions. Mural crown argent with four apparent towers (town rank) and white scroll reading "VILA DE PONTA DO SOL" in black upper case letters. Variants show only "PONTA DO SOL" on the scroll.
António Martins-Tuválkin, 29 May 1999
Maybe due to an error, this coat of arms is often found with five towers instead of four, as indicating a city status that the municipality seat never had (curiously, the flag never shows gyronny, which would also indicate a putative city status, that’s why I say it is an error).
António Martins-Tuválkin, 29 May 1999
It is a flag quarterly divided into white and blue. The coat of arms is in the centre of the flag with a golden (=yellow) sun with face and grey beams in a blue field. The flag was spotted in the local town hall on 16 February 2012.
