Acc. to Sérgio Horta it is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain green field (see left image), acc. to Rio Maior municipal webpage the flag is quartered of green and white (see right image). The latter probably is the newer one.

Shield Argent, a dolmen Azure topped by a cross of the same, in dexter chief a flagon Vert, in sinister chief a crow's head Sable armed and eyed Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers on both flags (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "ALCOBERTAS".
Meaning:
The flagon is an attribute of St. Mary Magdalen, the local patron saint.
