It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a white and red quartered field.

The arms are Azure, on a plate a cross potent Gules, in chief two pine cones Or. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "FERNÃO FERRO". The original blazon prescribed a cross throughout (cruz firmada) and states that the pinecones are leaved but doesn't say the colour - I suspect bad blazoning. The only design I ever saw in use matches these images.
