It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain green field (village rank).

The arms are Or a beam balance scale Gules garnished Argent and in base a mattock Vert - usually in 3D perspective - garnished Argent. Mural crown argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "BALANÇA".
Meaning:
The word "Balança" means "(beam) balance (scale)", the weighing instrument, and the arms are thus partly canting.

Balança Commune is one of the 14 communes of Terras de Bouro Municipality (q.v.); it had 393 inhabitants in 2001 and covers 4,45 km².
