Póvoa de Santa Iria Commune was one of the pre-2013 communes of Vila Franca de Xira Municipality (q.v.); it had 40 404 inhabitants in 2011 and covered 4.1 km². It gained the rank of a city on 24 June 1999.

Meaning:
The golden colour is alluding to the local fields of wheat. The olive branch is alluding to the production of oil in present and past. The "Vauban"-fortress is one of three fortifications of the lines of Torres Vedras and is also alluding to the commune's name. The base wavy is representing river Tejo.

Forte da Casa Commune was one of the pre-2013 communes of Vila Franca de Xira Municipality (q.v.); it had 11 056 inhabitants in 2011 and covered 4.0 km².
