Meaning:
The olive trees are canting elements. The fleur-de-lis is an attribute of Our Lady of Assumption, the local patron saint.

Meaning:
The commune's name is derived from "Castro e Uima", which is "castle and Uima (river)", and is alluding to an old fortress, which closed the mouth of River Uima. The inescutcheon, the pattern is called "Portugal antigo" (= Portugal ancient), is referring to the importance of the location for the onset of the Portuguese nation. The base wavy is symbolizing the rivers Douro and Uima. The coiler is representing the textiles industries with its spinning mills.
