It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain yellow field.

The shield of the arms is Vert, a sword flamant Argent in pale pointing to the chief and garnished Or, flanked at dexter by a maize ear Or leaved Argent, itself flanked at sinister by two rye ears Or, all three with crossed stalks, at dexter by a chestnut twig (missing tincture here!) leaved Argent and with three chestnuts Or slit Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll (Bénard Guedes style) reading in black upper case letters "VILA VERDE - VINHAIS".
The sword is an attribute of St. Michael, the local patron saint.

Vila Verde Commune is one of the 26 communes of Vinhais Municipality; it had 186 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 14.3 km².
