Sovereign Military Order of Malta (SMOM) roundels 1998-

According to Payrat (2000) - Aircraft Marking - The roundel is a red disk with a white Maltese cross, the round version of the Grand Master's flag (i.e. of the Coat of Arms). These aircrafts are mainly used in humanitarian missions of the Order, I understand. Also, here I may note the rail-road wagons belonging to the Order which are marked with the (lesser) Coat of Arms. The wagons are used also for humanitarian missions, but also as emergency shelters for refugees in need.

Cochrane/Stuart (1998) report: " Aircraft of the independent sovereign order of Malta, based in Rome, have occasionally carried the order's cross insignia on the fuselage, retaining standard Italian roundels on the wings". The plate shows something like the above but with the cross touching the edges and all roundels bordered in yellow.
Dov Gutterman, 25 June 2004

I found a photo of SMOM Aircraft marking which matches Dov's report dated 25 June 2004 and made the image.

The roundels of SMOM use green-white-red concentric circular roundel and a red circular roundel with a white Maltese cross. The military aircrafts were transferred from Italian Air force.
