Description

The Sanjak of Damascus (Damascus or Syria proper) was established by the French Summer 1920.

The flag of Damascus (adopted 1922) was blue with a white circle. (...) I forgot to specify that the French canton also appears in this flag. The white circle is 8:12:8 (height) of the flag and French canton is 1/3. The white circle is centered in the whole flag. For more details see [Der Flaggenkurier 7/8 article from Falko Schmidt (in German), who previously sent me a summary in English in which he said that the flag was in use from 1922 to 1924. In June 22nd 1922, Damascus joined the Syrian Federation and on December 5th 1924, Damascus was merged with Aleppo and converted in Syrian State.

The following is an extract from [Corre 2000 ([Franciae Vexilla, #19/65, September 2000). I have tried to stick to the text as tightly as possible (no interpretation). Possible errors come either from the original text or loose translation from French:

4. Federation of Syria, under French mandate, 1920-1925. (...) The four states of the Federation each had a specific flag with the French Tricolore in canton:

Damascus: A navy blue field with a white disc in the middle.
This flag was in use until 25 January 1925. Damascus and Aleppo merged on 5 December 1924 to form the State of Syria.
