The former flag of Pammukale was white with the municipality's former emblem.
The emblem of the municipality features the Denizli chicken (presentation), also represented on the emblems of the Denizli Province and of the Metropolitan Municipality of Denizli.
The Denizli chicken is classified by the Poultry Club among the "Rare Long Crowers". Chicken breeding appears to be quite ancient in Denizli; excavations performed in 2003 in the old town of Laodicea yielded a marble relief, 900 years old, featuring a fighting rooster crowned with a palm (Hürriyet Daily News, 18 May 2013).
The rooster stands on a representation of the local landscape, which was much more explicit in the former emblem of the municipality. The rooster was added to the new emblem to reflect the new status of the municipality of Pammukale.
The site of Hierapolis-Pamukkale was inscribed in 1988 on the UNESCO's World Heritage List, with the following description:
Calcite-laden waters from hot springs, emerging from a cliff almost 200 metres high overlooking the plain, have created a visually stunning landscape at Pamukkale. These mineralized waters have generated a series of petrified waterfalls, stalactites and pools with step-like terraces, some of which are less than a meter in height while others are as high as six meters. Fresh deposits of calcium carbonate give these formations a dazzling white coating. The Turkish name Pamukkale, meaning “cotton castle”, is derived from this striking landscape.
