The flag of Şırnak (photo) is white with the municipality's emblem. "Belediyesi" means "Municipality".
The emblem of the municipality features Noah's Ark landed on Mt. Cudi.
A popular etymology relates the name of the town to Sehr-i Nuh (Noah's Town). The search for Noah's Ark is a grey area in archeological research; as of today, no physical evidence of the ark has been founded. The location of the ark's landing place after the Flood by is a matter of conjecture and controversy. The Biblical tradition assigns Mt. Ararat at the landing place, while Quran mentions a "Mt. Cudi", which has been identified by some "Biblical archeologists" to a mountain located near Şırnak.
