The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), formerly the United
Nations Fund for Population Activities, is a UN agency aimed at
improving reproductive and maternal health worldwide. The agency began
operations in 1969 as the United Nations Fund for Population
Activities under the administration of the United Nations Development
Fund (currently: UN Development Program ). In 1971 it was placed under
the authority of the United Nations General Assembly. Its name was
changed to the United Nations Population Fund in 1987. However, the
shortened term of UNFPA has been retained. There are two flags used; a logo on white and a white logo on orange.
