City Commission Memorandum 21-264
TO: Mayor Steve Austin and the Board
of Commissioners
FROM: William L. "Buzzy" Newman, Jr., City Manager
SUBJECT: Adoption of New Official City of Henderson Flag Design
The
accompanying resolution approves rescinding and superseding the current City of
Henderson Official Flag design and adopting a new official flag design.
As you may be aware, the City officially adopted a City Flag imprinted with the
Scottish coat of arms of the Richard Henderson family in May of 1960.
In
July of this year, Mr. Jax Matthews came before this Board with a new proposed
flag design that incorporates iconic symbols of our community such as the
downtown railroad bridge, stars representing the two rivers of Henderson-the
Ohio River and the Green River, goldenrods to represent the peace and
tranquility of our community, a large blue bar in the middle representing the
water around the city, and black bars on the edges to represent the
determination and resolve of our citizens.
Staff has worked with Mr.
Matthews and his family over the past several months to make minor changes to
the design and present the final design for consideration at this time. Your
approval of the attached resolution is requested.
