HARRISON UNFURLS NEW CITY FLAG

Voting is in and the City of Harrison soon will be flying a new flag. The flag designs were created and presented to city council during its regular meeting Tuesday, April 19, by the Flag Club at Harrison High School. Residents went online to vote for their favorite flag out of three designs.

The winning flag, titled The Sun Rays Flag, features several concurrent symbolic levels. The logo is in the top-left corner, which represents Harrison's geographic location in Hamilton County. The sun rays that emanate from the logo show the community shining down on the rest of the county. These rays also can be interpreted as rows to represent Harrison's tradition of agriculture.

About the colors: the color green symbolizes Harrison's extensive agricultural ties, as well as the expansive wilderness that attracted settlers to the community. The blue ties to the past and presence of water in the area: canals and waterways that were used to transport people and goods, and the water found in the parks and recreational areas.
