Description of the Flag

Parker County: Displayed in the Genealogy section of the Weatherford Public Library is a copy of the Parker County centennial flag. The flag was designed by Bobby Daniel and made by Mrs. Moselle C. Baker for the 1956 Parker County Centennial. It is not known if the flag was ever officially adopted.

The flag is white, with a seal in the center, surrounded by maroon and peach rings. The seal depicts the County Courthouse above a watermelon. To either side of the courthouse are fruit-bearing peach branches. Above the courthouse is a yellow five-pointed star with the number 100, for the Centennial of the county. Above the star is a maroon-edged peach colored ribbon with the words PARKER COUNTY TEXAS, 1856-1956 in the center; on the right side of the ribbon is a picture of a cow, while the left side of the ribbon displays the letters BY PC. While it is assumed that PC is for Parker County, the meaning of the BY is uncertain.

The peach branches and watermelon represent Parker County's most famous crops: Weatherford is the Peach Capital of Texas, and Parker County's sandy soil makes it ideal for growing watermelons. Thanks to Benjamin Bruce for providing photos and information!
