According to the San Francisco Call of 19 November 1904, representatives from three San Francisco rowing clubs formed the Pacific Association of Amateur Oarsmen five days earlier. The new organisation was intended to ultimately include all the rowing clubs on the Pacific coast.
The next year the association held its first annual regatta, a souvenir program of which can be seen at books.ioba.org, large image: c2.bibtopia.com. The front of the program shows what appears to be the association standard: A 3:5 pennant, with three tapering stripes of red over white over blue, with on the white the text "P.A.A.O.".
By 1958, it appears to association was no longer active, though it may formally still have existed.
