The French River Metis are descendants of the Woodland Metis who lived in the
French River Area. Our members come from the villages of Noelville, St-Charles,
Alban, Monetville, Markstay, Hagar, Warren and surrounding areas.
The
French River Metis are affiliated with OCAP (Ontario Coalition of Aboriginal
People) and are associated with other neighbouring communities such as West
Nipissing Metis.
Even though our French-Canadian roots run deep, and we
carry on many of these traditions, we also enjoy practicing some of the
Ceremonials and Spirituality of our aboriginal heritage. From our First Nations
relatives, we incorporate the medicine wheel, tobacco offerings, the eagle
feather, smudging, the sacred fire and many other traditions.
In 2017
FRMT signed Treaty #2 with Metis Nation of Canada for partnership.
